What we can format
We work with every common document format.
- Word documents (.doc, .docx) — applying heading styles, consistent fonts, page numbers, headers and footers, table formatting, list styles, image placement
- PDFs — reformatting the underlying structure, re-typesetting for consistent typography, fixing layout issues, adding accessibility tags, normalizing margins
- InDesign and Publisher — for print and high-end layouts: typography, kerning, leading, master pages, paragraph styles, colour management, bleed and crop marks
- Google Docs — same as Word, plus Google-Slides-to-PDF formatting, and Sheets tables
- PowerPoint and Keynote — for slide-deck reformatting, master slides, consistent layouts, brand template matching
- LaTeX and Overleaf — for academic and technical documents: equation formatting, citation management (BibTeX, natbib), figure placement, table styling, cross-references
- Markdown and AsciiDoc — for technical documentation: reformatting tables, code blocks, footnotes, link formatting
Common formatting tasks
The most common requests we handle, roughly in order of frequency:
- Consistent typography — making sure the entire document uses one font family, one set of heading sizes, one body size, consistent line spacing
- Heading and subheading styles — applying a consistent visual hierarchy so readers can scan the document and find what they need
- Page numbering and headers/footers — adding or fixing page numbers, running headers with chapter or section name, footers with author/date/version
- Tables and figures — consistent table styling (header row shading, alternating row colours, alignment), numbered figures with captions, list of tables/figures
- References and citations — converting between citation styles (APA, MLA, Chicago, OSCOLA, Harvard), formatting a bibliography, in-text citation consistency
- Margin and page-size adjustments — converting between A4 and US Letter, adjusting margins to binding requirements, fitting content to a specific page count
- Rebranding — applying a new logo, new colour palette, new typography to an existing document. Common during company rebrand, project renaming, or template migration
- Image and figure optimization — replacing low-res images with high-res versions, recompressing for size, ensuring proper DPI for print
- Multi-document unification — making a set of related documents (e.g. a series of reports) look like they came from the same source
Industry-specific formatting
We have specialist templates and conventions for:
- Legal — court filings (UK, UAE, India, US), contracts, court bundles, statements of case, skeleton arguments, expert reports
- Academic — theses, dissertations, journal articles, conference papers, lab reports. We support every common citation style and university template
- Medical — clinical reports, case studies, regulatory submissions, journal manuscripts, CME modules
- Financial — annual reports, financial statements, investor decks, fund prospectuses, due-diligence packs
- Government and NGO — policy briefs, project reports, grant applications, RFP responses
- Real estate — property reports, market analyses, lease documents, investor decks
- Recruitment and HR — employee handbooks, training modules, performance review templates, ATS-friendly CVs (see our resume formatting service)
How we work
Our formatting process is iterative but tight.
- Send us the document and a reference (if any). The reference could be a brand guideline, a previous report in the same series, or a sample page showing the look you want.
- Receive a fixed quote within 2 hours. We assess the document, identify the changes needed, and quote a single fixed price.
- We do a free 1-page sample for new clients on orders over £100. You see the formatting quality before committing.
- Approve the sample and we format the rest. Standard delivery: 48 hours after sample approval.
- Review and revisions. You get the formatted file plus a redline summary of changes. Minor revisions are included in the quote.
Pricing
Document formatting is priced per page or per document, depending on complexity.
- Light formatting — £50 per page. Typical for a memo or short report that just needs consistent typography and basic structure.
- Standard formatting — £75-100 per page. Typical for a long report that needs headings, page numbers, headers, footers, and a table of contents.
- Heavy formatting — quoted per project. Typical for a thesis, regulatory submission, or any document with strict style requirements (specific citation style, university template, court rules).
For a project quote, send the document and a description of what you need. Most quotes return within 2 hours during business hours.
Why clients choose us for formatting
Three reasons.
- We treat typography as a craft. We know the difference between 1.15 and 1.2 line-height. We know when a heading should be 14pt and when 16pt. We know when to use 8pt body text (almost never) and when to use 11pt (most reports). That attention to detail is what separates a formatted document from a formatted document that looks effortless.
- We have done this for 12+ years across dozens of industries. We have a reference library of templates, citation styles, and brand guides for almost every common scenario. The first job on a new industry usually takes us a few hours of research; the second job in that industry takes minutes.
- We are fast and we are honest. Standard delivery is 48 hours. Express is 12 hours. We quote fixed prices, not hourly rates, and we never silently expand the scope. If a job is bigger than we thought, we flag it before we start work, not after.
What we do not do
We are a formatting service, not a writing or design service. Specifically, we do not provide:
- Content writing or copy editing (we can recommend partners)
- Logo or graphic design (we can recommend partners)
- Translation between languages (we can recommend partners)
- Document scanning from paper (we can recommend partners or accept pre-scanned files)
If you need any of these, ask us for a referral — we have a small network of trusted partners we have worked with for years.
