What we restore
- Faded paper documents — scanned in high resolution, contrast enhanced, OCR'd, optionally re-typeset to a clean PDF
- Damaged scans — skewed, low-contrast, with fold marks or torn edges. We deskew, de-noise, and reconstruct missing sections
- Old/corrupt PDFs — files that won't open, have missing pages, or render incorrectly. We repair the file structure or rebuild from the source
- Photos of documents — perspective correction, lighting correction, de-blurring, OCR
- Old Word / Excel files — files from Word 97, 2003, or other legacy formats that won't open in modern Word. Convert to current format while preserving formatting
- Historical documents — old fonts, faded ink, special characters. We use specialist OCR and a human review pass to maximise accuracy
- Multi-language historical — Latin, Cyrillic, Arabic, Hebrew, and most other scripts
How we work
- Assess the document. Send a sample page (or the whole document) and we will tell you what we can restore, what the limitations are, and what the cost will be.
- High-resolution scan. If you have a paper document, we recommend a 600 DPI scan (we can advise on this or arrange it through a partner).
- Restoration. We apply the right combination of techniques — deskewing, denoising, contrast enhancement, OCR, manual review — to get the best result.
- Quality check. We compare the restored version against the original to confirm nothing was lost and the output is usable.
- Deliver. PDF, Word, or other format per your preference. With the original preserved separately in case you want further restoration later.
Pricing
Restoration is priced per page based on the level of work needed.
- Light restoration — £25 per page. Basic deskew, contrast, OCR. Typical for a clean but faded scan.
- Standard restoration — £50 per page. Multi-step processing, denoising, contrast enhancement, manual OCR review. Typical for a damaged or old scan.
- Heavy restoration — quoted per project. Specialist techniques for very damaged, very old, or very complex documents.
What we cannot do
We are good at restoration, but some things are beyond what software can do. We will always tell you upfront if your document is in that category.
- Severely damaged documents where significant text is illegible even to a human. We can OCR what is readable, but we cannot make up what is not.
- Historical documents in specialist scripts (e.g. ancient scripts, dead languages) where OCR models are not trained. We can advise on specialist vendors.
- Documents where the source is missing entirely. We need at least a partial source to work from.
